Hello Class,
Welcome back to Adulting 101 lecture; I remain your humble instructor, Ms. Tolulope. Today we would uncover the hidden gems of adulthood and how to navigate them with Steeze and Aura. In our last class, I talked about the unexpected joys of independence and the freedom to make our own decisions, like doing certain things without your parents looking over your shoulder or breathing down your neck. It feels good, innit?
Today, we’ll delve deeper into the bright side of adulthood, shall we?
But before we begin, any form of distraction from you would attract a reduction in your steeze, so keep your steeze and composure on a 💯 by paying attention.
The top of my list when talking about the bright side of adulthood is the financial independence that comes with it. Remember those days when a visitor comes to your house and gives you money to buy biscuits or Capri-Sun before they leave? And you're happy that you have small money to buy junks or one toy you've been eyeing, but your happiness is short-lived when mommy comes back from seeing the visitor off and says, “Give me the money let me keep it for you,” even though you don't want to give mommy the money, you have no choice because mommy has the final say. Ask her for “your” money later, and the next thing you'll hear is, “All the food you've been eating in this house and all the shoes and clothes I've been buying for you nko?” And that’s it, case dismissed! But although your money is gone, you've been eating three square meals with snacks and also have added a few collections of clothes to your wardrobe. A win-win situation.
Now, as an adult, you have the power to not only earn your own income but spend it however you please (after bills, of course). Whether it's splurging on good food (because you've left mommy's house and no more home-cooked meals) or buying yourself more clothes, shoes, and bags even though your wardrobe is overflowing with clothes, or saving up for a need or want, the freedom to manage our finances is truly liberating. I remember the first time I worked to earn money in 2018 thereabouts, it was an ushering job and I was paid 15k, got home and told my mom about it; she replied, “Okay.” Of course, in my head, I was like, “Won't you keep it for me?” I was excited at the thought of spending the money on my own accord but I maintained composure so she won’t change her mind. I don't think I spent the money wisely sha, but the point is it felt good to decide how I wanted to spend my money, but subsequently I've learned how to handle money and the importance of saving.
Next up on my list is the beauty of self-discovery and personal growth. Adulthood is like an ongoing adventure where we constantly learn, evolve, and reinvent ourselves. From exploring new hobbies and passions to overcoming challenges and setbacks, each experience shapes us into the person we are meant to be. Embrace the journey, embrace the growth, and remember that it's okay to stumble along the way.
Lastly, one of the greatest perks of adulthood is building meaningful connections and fostering deep friendships. As adults, we have the privilege of surrounding ourselves with like-minded individuals who lift us up, support us, and share in our triumphs and tribulations. Whether it's bonding over shared interests, mini friendship dates, or spontaneous adventures, cherish those connections and nurture them with love and genuineness. Navigating this life with people who have your back and give you a shoulder to lean on when you feel weary and vice versa cannot be emphasized enough because you cannot do this life thing alone. You need good friends to ride with you through thick and thin always.
We have come to the end of today's lecture; I hope you all enjoyed the lecture and learned a thing or two.
In our next class I would be sharing with you my special guide and handbook to living a fun adult life. Till then Stay guided and vigilant whilst keeping your steeze and composure on a 💯.
